Playing in the Sugar Cane Fields

I was so playful when I was a kid. I personally believed that I had a lot of enjoyable moments at that time.

I lived in Sragi, a small village in the border of Pekalongan Regency. Sragi was famous of its sugar factory. Long time ago, Holland established the factory in my lovely village. No wonder, the surrounding of Sragi was full of sugar cane fields.

As a kid, I spent my day by playing all along the day. I had some close friends to play with. It was a windy day so my friends and I decided to play a kite. We went to the back of one of my friends’ house. There was a sugar cane field behind the house. We decided to play the kite there. The wind was so great as it could fly our kite easily. On the other side of the field, we could see another kite fly. Thus, a battle between our kite and their kite could not be avoided. Fortunately, we won the battle as their kite was cut. The kite flew down, it goes without saying. Then, we chased the kite since someone who caught the kite first would be the new owner of the kite. My friend could catch the kite, so he was the next owner of the kite. After that, we took a rest in the side of the sugar cane field. We ate some sugar canes to restore our stamina.

Playing with my friends was my favorite activity when I was a kid. It was extremely fun, I guess.

I could find a lot of foreigners enjoying the beach. Some of them just did sunbathing; many others had surfing or just walked along the beach.

A Wedding Anniversary

It was Thursday evening. All family members were at my parents’ house. My parents invited my uncle, my sister, my brother, and me for their twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage. Everyone was busy to prepare the family party.

Suddenly the rain poured heavily and a few minutes later the light was off. When the light was off, my brother was roasting lamb, my sister was putting all the plates, spoons, forks, and was preparing the table with food, and I was helping my mother decorate the cake and candles. Fortunately, my uncle called and when I told him what was happening, he said he would come with emergency lights. In the dark, my father looked for other candles and lit some of them. When my uncle arrived, we were still setting up the table. He turned the emergency lights on. Under the dim light, we were ready to sit around table full of food. My father lit the candle, together with my mother they blew out the candle, and we clapped, sang and prayed for their health and happiness. Then, we started to enjoy the food. While we were having the food, the light was on again. We cheered and clapped once again.
